Digital Wallet with Broken Hill Bank
A digital wallet is a contactless payment method that is essential in modern life. While it’s easy to leave home without your wallet, it’s unlikely that you will forget your phone.
What is a digital wallet?
If you haven’t used a digital wallet before, it is a fast, secure and easy way to make payments on the go, either online or in store. A digital wallet securely stores a digital version of your Broken Hill Bank Visa Debit card on your phone or smartwatch, making it easy to make purchases without the need to carry your physical card.
You may know of digital wallets like Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay — these services facilitate payments while protecting your information and hiding your card details.
Benefits of a digital wallet
Digital wallets use near-field communication, your device’s wireless technology, and magnetic signals to transfer payment information to the payment terminal, just like a tap-and-go physical card would.
Digital wallets can often store a range of payment and loyalty cards, including:
Healthcare and health fund cards
Loyalty cards
Boarding passes for travel
Event tickets and more.
Digital security and your digital card
When you add your card to the wallet, it is encrypted and replaced with a token number. This means that your card data is not stored on the device or shared when a payment is processed.
Here’s what to know:
Card details, like the card number, expiry date and CVV, are never revealed, even to the merchant.
When you make a purchase the digital card passes a unique code to the merchant to process the payment. Your personal information remains secure.
For transactions over $100, you may need to enter your card PIN at the payment terminal, for added security.
Digital wallets have age restrictions to prevent children adding a card to a smartphone or device. Children must be over 13 years old to use Apple Pay and 16 years old for Google Pay.
It is important to keep your device safe with passcodes, PINs, fingerprint or facial recognition. Never share this information with anyone.
