Confirmation of Payee

Confirmation of Payee (CoP) helps verify account details before you send money. When you make payments using BSB and account numbers through our Internet Banking or Banking App, we check the recipient's details with their bank to help prevent payment errors and scams.

What is Confirmation of Payee?

Confirmation of Payee is a banking industry service that compares the account name you enter with the details held by the recipient's bank. The service runs automatically when you make payments and shows you whether the details match before you complete the transfer.

How it works

1. Enter payment details - Add recipient information when making a payment via BSB and account number

2. Automatic check - Our system compares your entered details with the recipient bank's records

3. View result - See whether the details match and decide whether to proceed

Match Results Explained

The account details you entered match the bank records of the intended recipient, and the recipient’s name will be displayed.

Match

Close Match

The account details you entered closely match the bank records of the intended recipient, and the recipient’s name will be displayed.

The account details you entered do not match the bank records of the intended recipient. The recipient’s name will not be displayed unless it is a business or government organisation.

No Match

Error

The service could not confirm the account details you entered match.

The recipient account is closed. Contact the recipient for updated details.

Important information

· CoP only blocks payments to closed accounts - you control all other payment decisions

· You're responsible for entering correct payment details

· Your account name is only shown to payers when details match or closely match

· The service works for domestic Australian payments using BSB and account numbers

· Not available for PayID, BPAY, or international transfers
